Citizen Four Response
After viewing the documentary, "Citizen Four", I have a slightly different view on Edward Snowden and the whole NSA operation. Before watching this documentary, I knew about Edward Snowden and what de had done, but I did not know the full context of the situation. This piece helped me realize the whole situation.
What I knew about Edward Snowden prior to watching this film pertained to the idea that he leaked information about the NSA to the public. What I did not know about his leaking of information was that he presented it to three journalists who interviewed him about what he knew. names such as Glenn greenwald weren't prevalent in my mind about this topic until I saw this piece. I had read an article about Mr. Snowden but this film went into greater depths of Snowden and his information and also showed first hand how he felt about what he was doing.
The idea that the NSA is actually watching our phone calls and other forms of media is quite scary. In some senses, Edward Snowden is a traitor for going against his country and leaking this information, but also, he is a hero for letting the public know that this was happening. Snowden is currently living in Russia according to the documentary and is still wanted by the United States. I find it quite interesting how countries can allow this type of asylum for people like Snowden.
The whole documentary changed my perspective on the whole Snowden situation. I thought the film was very well done and it capture the full essence of what Edward Snowden is about and what he was trying to accomplish with his decision. This documentary makes me want to learn even more about Edward Snowden and the NSA.
